Isaiah 14:24, “The Lord Almighty has sworn, ‘Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.” (NIV)
God is the best Author I have ever read. He can weave an intricate plot from the fraying threads of our lives. The Bible is the best example of God’s story-telling abilities, but He wants to take up the pen in our lives today.
Oswald Chambers said it well: “Will we allow Him to help Himself to us, or are we more concerned with our own ideas of what we are going to be?”

God wants to write all of the chapters of our lives. He has already finished all of the prep-work. He has set up the outline in detail. He has planned the plot. He has hand-picked the characters and carefully placed them where they need to be.
Too often I take the pen back from Him.
Now all He wants to do is gently lead you and me through the story.
I think I know best. I clutch the pages close and scribble furiously, until I look hard at the inky mess and realize I’ve been trying to live as if I am in control. I may think that Jesus Christ possesses complete Lordship over my life, but essentially, I’m living the way I want.
But a good writer never gives up on a story. In the same way, God never gives up on us.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that we have a Lord who forgives our mistakes? God loves us eternally, whether we honor Him or fail Him. He desires to forgive us, restore us, and bring us back into His arms.
Which will we choose today? Will we stubbornly hold onto the book ourselves or will we allow God to write the story of our lives?
Dear Lord, You are the Lord of my life. I am Yours. Please write me a life story that will glorify Your name! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A college sophomore, Rachelle Rea coaches gymnastics at her local YMCA. She loves being in control, but is seeing more clearly every day that being in control is never as exciting as striving every day to surrender her life to the Lordship of Christ. One thing that never fails to encourage her is in spite of how often she messes up, God loves her no matter what.
