Be Courageous: Do Something That Scares You

Have you ever felt God asking you to do something, but didn’t really know why or how you could possibly do it?

Recently, I was able to witness and be a part of God working His miraculous power through one of His children. Her name was Kelly.

Some would say it takes courage to go to a third world country where seventy percent of those you come in contact with are HIV positive. Some might say it takes courage for twenty people to willingly sign up for a trip where they would be with total strangers.

be courageous

Courage is the ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation.

Kelly’s demonstration of courage shocked me.

After ten days of pouring out the love of Christ to a people who desperately needed to hear the Good News together, you quickly lose the stranger label and become bound together like sisters. The unity we shared was through a common thread – that was Jesus Christ.

We were sitting in the airport anxiously waiting to board the aircraft that would carry us over eight thousand miles back to America.

Kelly’s Courage

I’m not even sure how the conversation came up, but as we were talking Kelly told me that before the day we left for the trip she had never been on an airplane.

After I practically lifted my jaw off the ground, I asked her for clarification. Nope, I had not misheard what she said. She had never been on a plane before boarding ten days prior.

Let me recap what she did:

Kelly boarded a plane for the first time, alone, and flew eight hours from Idaho to DC. From there, she met nineteen strangers with whom she would board another plane and ride eight hours to the other side of the world, arriving in South Africa.

How Crazy Is That?!

Courage is the ability to confront fear or uncertainty. Anytime we ask God for a dose of courage and willingly choose to be obedient to His call, the reward will be sweet.

God moved in Kelly’s life in mighty ways. God not only captured her heart for people that He desperately loves, but He showed her that He is master over any fear or doubt.

God wants to work in our lives the same way He did in Kelly’s.

All we must do is willingly submit to His authority and trust that His ways are always better than ours, even if it requires us to do something that seems impossible.

Are you facing something that you need to ask God for courage to overcome? Go ahead and ask Him. He is eagerly waiting to give you a dose of His miraculous power!

Abba Father, You did not give me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-discipline. Would You please give me the courage that I need to conquer the mountain in front of me? I know that I can trust You. I choose today to live my life in obedience to You. Thank You for Your faithfulness! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
